Sep 20, 2005 (New Scientist - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Genetic changes in the human brain were believed to have occurred some millions of years ago. However, recent studies suggest that some evolutionary changes might be continuing. Bruce Lahn and his colleagues at the University of Chicago examined the sequences of two active genes in the brain, the Microcephalin gene and the APMS gene. They found several variants of the gene in both cases, however, they also found a distinctive mutation in both genes that altered the proteins for which they code. The mutations were found to be more prevalent in people from certain parts of the world than others....
