Seaweed discovery sends out right signal.

listed in 2004 to further technology developed by researchers at the University of New South Wales. The researchers found that a seaweed in Botany Bay in Sydney was not a host to algae. They developed a synthetic compound from the seaweed which stops colonisation by bacteria. The anti-bacterial

technology has applications in the marine anti-fouling market. An anti-bacterial coating on contact lenses is being developed, as well as other applications in the healthcare field.
