CVRD targets 300m tonnes a year output.

Oct 07, 2005 (Lloyd's List Daily Commercial News - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) produced 211 million tonnes of iron ore in 2004. Roger Agnelli, the CEO of the Brazilian

mining company, says it expects to be producing 300 million tonnes of iron ore by 2007. He made his comments during a visit to Japan to commemorate 50 years of CVRD selling ore to the Japanese steel sector. Japanese steel companies bought 27 million tonnes of iron ore and iron pellets from CVRD in 2004, equivalent to nine per cent of its overall output. For the first half of 2005, CVRD supplied 11.9 million tonnes of iron ore and pellets to Japanese steel makers.
