Splenda: ad dropped, Chinese appear.

Nov 09, 2005 (Food Management News - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The New Zealand Advertising Standards Authority instructed Johnson & Johnson to withdraw an advertisement. The Authority found that the TV ad had the potential to convince viewers that "Splenda" was made of sugar. New Zealand Sugar, an offshoot of Sugar Australia, filed the complaint. A Johnson & Johnson official notes that six of the seven complaints against the ad were unsuccessful. "Splenda" has made inroads against rivals including Danisco and Merisant. Goldman Sachs queries the brand's patent strategy and highlights the emergence

of new artificial sweeteners.
