Dec 21, 2005 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian sharemarket's two key indices both closed at record highs on 21 December 2005. The S&P/ASX 200 rose 46 points to 4,718.2, while the All Ordinaries Index gained 43.2 points to finish at 4,659.9. The banking and resources sectors again led the market higher, with Rio Tinto advancing $A1.68 to $A67.18 and the Commonwealth Bank adding $A0.52 to close at $A42.40. However, Newcrest Mining fell $A0.22 to $A21.57 and Lihir Gold was down $A0.07 at $A2.08 after the spot price of gold fell to $US490.90 an ounce in Asian trading.
