Australia heads research into new mining era.

Dec 06, 2005 (Environmental & Science Update - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Research Council (ARC) has announced that Australia will head a global research program. The aim of the program is to find new ways of extracting minerals from the earth. Peter Hoj, the CEO of the ARC, said the program could revolutionise the global mining industry. The following companies and universities will participate in the research program: BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Anglo Platinum, Phelps Dodge, Orica

Mining and Xstrata Technology, and the universities of South Australia, Queensland, Newcastle and Melbourne.
