States warned on carbon exemption.

Jan 15, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian states have been warned about approaches from coal-fired power stations

seeking exclusion from the future costs of carbon trading schemes. Economist Warwick McKibbin, a Reserve Bank of Australia board member, has encouraged the Australian Government to introduce a system for the exchange of carbon credits between companies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and those that do not. Origin Energy said state governments could encourage investment in low- emission technology by ruling out indemnity

against carbon trading.
