Value of branches sinks in.

Feb 26, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian banks are recognising the value of branches. Cost cutting has led to falls in revenue and customer satisfaction. US research has found that banks with larger branch networks have higher non-interest revenue and better efficiency ratios. In Australia, Bendigo Bank operates a community

partnership model. The Bank of Queensland operates a franchise model, as do some non- bank lenders. The ANZ Bank and the

Commonwealth Bank are experimenting with "virtual franchises".
