ATO outsources debt collection.

Feb 20, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will trial a program to collect more debts. The tax debts of small business operators in Australia have skyrocketed to $A6.5 billion. The ATO will begin a trial, using a private collection agency, in March 2006 and will finish it in June 2006. It is thought that

the private agency will be Dun & Bradstreet. The ATO staff, who are represented by the Australian Services Union, fear that this could be the first step to the outsourcing of ATO work.
