Qantas chief warns Canberra on job losses.

Feb 16, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Geoff Dixon, CEO of Australian carrier Qantas Airways, says it may be forced into further
cost-cutting measures, including the shedding of jobs. The company is seriously considering outsourcing the maintenance of part of its fleet to providers overseas, especially so if the Australian Government decides to allow more competition on lucrative routes. Dixon argues while fellow Australian airline Virgin Blue is welcome to fly to the US from Australia, heavily subsidised rivals such as Singapore Airlines should continue to be banned.
