Mar 16, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The failure of Australian airline OzJet has once again led to a return to a duopoly in
the sector. While spirited competition between Qantas Airways and Virgin Blue has brought airfares to comparatively low levels, passenger loads are rising due to fewer aircraft purchases. Qantas subsidiary Jetstar, a budget carrier, has created a new segment of the market, but OzJet's business class-only strategy failed to take off and caused losses of over $A10m. Founder Paul Stoddart is planning to limit his business to
charter flights from now on.
