Double trouble for NAB in UK.

Mar 08, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- National Australia Bank (NAB) is facing more competition in the UK. Its Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank subsidiaries are planning to open more sites in southern England, where

HBOS intends to open 100 new branches. HBOS dominates the banking market in northern England and Scotland. Another problem facing NAB in the UK is the rising level of personal debt. CEO John Stewart has acknowledged that this is an area that needs to be monitored. Barclays Bank, HSBC and Lloyds TSB have already reported a rise in bad debts.
