Kirk wary of making forecast.

Mar 06, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- John Fairfax Holdings has returned a first half net profit of $119.9m, and will not predict its 2005-06 full-year result. The Australian newspaper and classified advertisements group achieved EBIT of $A223.5m for the six months, but expenses

such as redundancy payouts for 135 staff ate into this income. The online division, Fairfax Digital, performed very well, while the Australian and New Zealand publishing arms achieved small revenue increases. The newspaper advertising market had been rough on Fairfax. CEO David Kirk says it is simply too early to give full-year profit guidance....
