Profitable child-care group fights fine.
Australasian Business Intelligence, March, 2006
Mar 02, 2006 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- ABC Learning Centres has denied any liability over the escape of a two-year-old child. In April 2003 the boy climbed over a fence of an
ABC child-care centre in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria, into a private backyard. Ross Ray, counsel for the listed child-care group, told the Victorian Supreme Court on 2 March 2006
that ABC had done all that it could to ensure adequate care of the children at the centre. He pointed out that staff numbers and qualifications, fence height and centre equipment were all up to standard. Ray claimed that if blame was to be laid, it should be laid on an employee.
