Apr 30, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The University of Melbourne is planning a radical revamp of its courses, which is being watched with interest around Australia. It intends to adopt a model similar to the US "Ivy League" universities. Students will do a broadly-based bachelor degree followed by postgraduate studies in their chosen area. Meanwhile, Victoria University is heading in a different direction. It is concentrating on short, professional degrees linked to industry, based on a polytechnic model. Across the board, universities are changing and Victoria is leading the way, but reaction from business has been mixed.
