Heavies weigh in to call for tax reform.

Apr 20, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Four out of five key speakers at a national tax conference have called for massive reform of the Australian taxation system. The speeches, given at the University of New South Wales tax administration conference "ATAX" on 20 April 2006, are sure to embarrass the Prime Minister, John Howard, and the Treasurer, Peter Costello, who have argued against major tax reform. Former High Court chief justice, Anthony Mason, said the current complex system wasted taxpayer funds. Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Taxation, David Vos, said the system is biased in favour of the tax commissioner.
