Twist to defined benefit come back.
Australasian Business Intelligence, April, 2006
Apr 20, 2006 (Financial Planning - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Mercer Human Resources Consulting has put forward a proposal for a new type of retirement plan. According to Mercer, the Retirement Share Plan combines the best features of defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans. Mercer notes that many companies have moved away from defined benefit plans in favour of defined contributions plans for their employees due to the perceived risks of defined benefit plans, but it claims that the risk is just "shifted to the individual" by adopting defined contributions plans. Mercer says its Retirement Share Plan offers a much more effective mechanism for risk allocation.
