Apr 18, 2006 (New Scientist - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Water has amazing characteristics. Zero point vibrations enable hydrogen and oxygen atoms to link with neighbouring atoms. Felix Franks, of the University of Cambridge in the UK, says life would be impossible without water's zero point vibrations. Research conducted by Florian Garcharek and Klaus Gerwert, at the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, shows that the role of water molecules in a protein called bacteriorhodopsin is also very important.
