The shape of cuts to come.

Australasian Business Intelligence, April, 2006

Apr 06, 2006 (BRW - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Hendy-Warburton taxation report delivered on 3 April 2006 will have no effect on Australia's taxation rates. The Prime Minister, John Howard, and the Treasurer, Peter Costello, determined long ago what changes they would reveal in the Budget. Expect a little something for everyone. Middle and lower-income taxpayers will not be ignored, but the report's emphasis on the top rate of 47 per cent being substantially higher than the OECD average gives the Government powerful ammunition for lowering that as well. Eliminating the top tax rate would cost just $A1.24bn a year, according to the University of New South Wales's tax school.
