Pesticides in fruit and veg.

Apr 04, 2006 (Choice - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Despite assurances by food regulators, Australian consumers worry about pesticides
in food. Roughly 300 pesticides are registered for use on fruit and vegetables. Opponents think the chemicals are linked to cancer. Professor David Pimentel, of Cornell University, claims pesticides save only about 10 per cent of the global food supply, which does not justify the associated public health
and environmental risks. A report by Britain's Food Standards Agency draws attention to the "cocktail effect" of
ingesting a range of pesticides. The Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania do not do any testing for pesticide...
