May 31, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Some Australian financial groups have moved into the provision of financial advice and other expertise to regional small businesses. Bendigo Bank has established 160 locally-owned franchise banks across regional areas of Australia, along with 150 bank-owned franchises. It has also launched Bendigo Telco Australia, which assists small and remote communities in accessing and managing local telecommunications needs. Rural Finance Corporation (RFC) also targets small businesses in rural regions. RFC shifted its base to Bendigo, Victoria in 2002, after a feasibility study identified the region as the most suitable for its operations.
