May 30, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Sam Rubin, of IOOF, says trustees of self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) in Australia have a number of obligations to beneficiaries. He claims trustees should assess whether they are meeting goals and should determine whether any deductions exist that may be employed to take advantage of current tax rates. Rubin suggests that SMSF trustees begin considering negative gearing prior to 30 June 2006. Ernst & Young's Noel Kelleher advises retired trustees to be aware of rules on contributions and says trustees at retirement age must ensure they have paid out the minimum pension for the year, have organised an auditor and that their accounts are organised and up to...
