[875] Collecting tax debts: Tax Office runs pilot project.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006

Byline: Terry Hayes

May 29, 2006 (Weekly Tax Bulletin - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced that it has entered into a trial tax debt collection program with Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). In announcing the trial, the ATO has stressed that it only involves D&B staff approaching taxpayers on its behalf about the possibility of settling their tax debts, and that any repayments will still go through ATO channels. D&B staff will not be given access to ATO systems in order to secure data on taxpayers, and D&B staff must follow its proof of identity processes before discussing any details of a taxpayer with a third party.
