May 29, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government is tentatively moving to send some government work offshore. The Australian Customs Service has issued four tenders for new technology partners to replace a four-year $A522 million contract with EDS. The tender documents say that Customs will not exclude offshore sourcing for partners. The Department of Immigration has also indicated that it will consider proposals to use offshore developers to work on its $A495 million IT overhaul program. The Australian Taxation Office would have to approve of such arrangements.
