Access denied, so Fortescue looks to state regime.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006

May 25, 2006 (Lloyd's List Daily Commercial News - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Fortescue Metals has been denied access to the Mount Newman-Port Hedland iron-ore railway in Western Australia. Fortescue may appeal the decision of the Australian Treasurer Peter Costello. The ruling has implications for other operators who are trying to compete with Rio Tinto, BHP and other big companies. Rod Campbell, Fortescue's company secretary, stated in a document prepared for the Australian Stock Exchange that the company would ask the Western Australian Government to pursue a state-based haulage regime.
