Casual workers not "cheaper alternative".

May 25, 2006 (Benchmarking HR - ABIX via COMTEX) -- There is an expectation that the Australian Government's new WorkChoices regime will prompt companies to increase their numbers of casual staff. However, companies that adopt this strategy with the expectation that their costs may fall could be in for a surprise, according to research undertaken by the University of New South Wales. One of the researchers, Maria McNamara, says that there is growing evidence to suggest that there are a number of "hidden costs" associated with casual employment, including higher staff turnover and lower morale.
