Resources cue regains some ground.

May 24, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian sharemarket posted solid gain on 24 May 2006, with the S&P/ASX 200 rising 23.9 points to 5,037.7. The All Ordinaries Index finished 28.7 points higher at 4,995. The market was bolstered by a rise in commodity prices, which drove resources stocks higher. Rio Tinto advanced $A2.59 to end the trading session at $A77.24, while Newcrest Mining advanced $A0.49 to $A20.59. Most of the major banks closed lower, although the ANZ Bank finished $A0.42 higher at $A26.65. Westfield eased $A0.15 to close at $A16.50, and the Australian Stock Exchange was up $A2.13 at $A31.38.
