Wild gene chase.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006

May 23, 2006 (New Scientist - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Research of common genes that might be responsible for certain forms of cancer is unlikely to bring any results. Stuart Baker of the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Jaakko Caprio of the University of Helsinki, Finland, write in an article published in the medical journal "BMJ" that studies of the link between single gene mutations and the risk of certain cancers are a waste of money. The NCI allocated $US14 million to be spent on the search for "susceptibility genes" for breast and prostate cancer.
