Public sector fights Trojan war.

May 22, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A new study from AusCert shows that more cybercriminals are now targeting government agencies instead of private companies. The 2006 Computer Crime and Security survey reveals that government agencies accounted for 59 per cent of cyberattacks in the last year. Graham Ingram, the GM of AusCert, notes that government agencies hold a wealth of personal data that can be used in the perpetration of other crimes, such as fraud. Meanwhile, the study found that the average cost of computer-related crimes was $A241,150 for every organisation, an increase of 63 per cent. However, just 50 per cent of respondents lifted their expenditure on IT security in the last year.
