Main news organisations condemn sedition legislation.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006
Byline: Fergus Shiel
May 15, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian news organisations are critical of new sedition laws. John Fairfax Holdings, News Limited and AAP Information Services have made a joint submission to a review of the laws by the Australian Law Reform Commission. The laws were designed to deal with incitement to carry out terrorist acts. However, the news organisations believe that they threaten the freedom of the media and would stifle political coverage. They want the laws repealed or amended to exempt the media.
