Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006

Byline: Anthony Lo Surdo

May 14, 2006 (Law Society Journal (NSW) - ABIX via COMTEX) -- There have been a number of recent cases dealing with legal professional privilege and its application to communications between a client and non-lawyers. One such case was that of the "Federal Commissioner of Taxation v Pratt Holdings Ltd", which concerned efforts by the Australian Taxation Office to gain access to documents prepared for the company by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Another case in a similar vein was that of "Westpac Banking Corporation v 789Ten Pty Limited", heard by the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
