Pace of race threatens prices, rates.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2006
Byline: Josh Gordon
May 02, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The National Australia Bank business survey for the March 2006 quarter shows that companies are operating at a near-record 83 per cent capacity. Business conditions and investment intentions are also close to their strongest levels, indicating that pressure is building on inflation. The findings were confirmed by a similar survey by St George Bank and the Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI). ACCI CEO, Peter Hendy, says employers are finding it hard to pass higher costs on to customers because of competition, and this is constraining inflation. He notes that selling prices fell over the quarter.
