Jun 13, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government and the computer industry are developing a plan to recycle old computers. The Australian Information Industry Association has proposed that importers be charged for recycling equipment that they brought into the country but which is no longer in use. The Australian Customs Service would keep import details and the scheme would also cover units sold by importers that are no longer in business. The basics of the plan were agreed to at a meeting on 13 June 2006 between Environment Minister Ian Campbell and about 40 representatives from industry and other governmental agencies.
