Jun 13, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office oversees the Senior Australians Tax Offset, which pertains to taxable income. The offset has a means test and is only offered to people with aged pension eligibility, which is 63 for women and 65 for men. Although an offset can be gained without receiving the pension, or passing the income and asset tests, it is only claimed via the income tax return. Based on the May 2006 Budget of Australian Treasurer, Peter Costello, offset thresholds will improve in 2006-07.
