Jun 12, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- US Treasury Secretary, John Snow, claims that, overall, global economic growth remains "impressively strong". His statement, made before the Group of Eight meeting in St Petersburg in June 2006, was supported by Japanese economic data. Japan has revised upwards its first-quarter growth in gross domestic product from 1.9 per cent to 3.1 per cent, on the back of a rapid rise in Japanese corporate investment. Meanwhile, the Morgan Stanley Capital International World Index fell 4.4 per cent in the week ended 9 June 2006. The International Monetary Fund anticipates the global economy will grow by 4.9 per cent this year.
