Jun 12, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian Environment Minister Ian Campbell is convening a summit of IT sector representatives and civil servants to discuss recycling. He noted that the Environment Protection & Heritage Council sees the issue of computer waste as a high priority, and that some 1.6 million computers annually end up in household and business rubbish collection. While the Australian Information Industry Association says manufacturers and resellers must not be made to bear the cost burden of any recycling schemes, trials of such initiatives have already been run by major companies Dell and Hewlett-Packard.
