Won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz.

Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2006

Jun 05, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australians are buying more imported luxury cars at the expense of Holdens and Fords. The Federal Chamber of Automobile Industries believes that this is due to gains from the stock market and the recently announced tax cuts. Sales of large cars fell by 26.8 per cent in May 2006, and have dropped by 21.6 per cent since the beginning of the year, according to the Chamber. The figures show that higher petrol prices have had a detrimental effect on the market. Marques such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW, however, are doing well.
