Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2006

Jul 31, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's Internet Industry Association has outlined what it believes are achievable targets for broadband services by 2010. It argues that in order for Australia to retain its status as an advanced information economy, the nation's internet users must be able to access broadband services at certain speeds. The IIA believes that 66 per cent of internet users should have broadband access at speeds of at least 24 megabits per second by 2010. Industry analyst Paul Budde notes that at present, 80 per cent of Australia's 3.5 million households with broadband internet access have connections offering download speeds of less than 512 kilobits a second.
