Not cricket: Fairfax won't pay for Warne book.

Aug 28, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A sports biography has caused a furore among newspaper companies and the book's publisher. A "Weekend Australian" article on "Spun Out", Paul Barry's biography of cricketer Shane Warne, sparked the dispute. Rival John Fairfax Holdings had won the exclusive right to publish early excerpts from the book, and is rumoured to have promised Random House up to $A40,000 for the privilege. However, the "Australian" article came out on the same day as Fairfax's "Good Weekend" exclusive. Fairfax is now refusing to pay. Random House has accused the "Australian" of violating a confidentiality agreement. The "Australian" denies the allegation, asserting that most of the article was in fact sourced...
