Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2006

Byline: Rachel Lebihan

Aug 23, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- An alliance led by the Total Environment Centre wants computer manufacturers to be forced to recycle discarded equipment. Called the "Let's do IT Group", it will hold an industry round table in September 2006 to address the issue. It wants Australian governments to ban the dumping of computers in landfills. Authorities will have to dispose of an estimated 1.6 million computers and 13,000 tonnes of lead waste in 2006. The Australian Information Industry Association is presently modifying its plans for a recycling scheme after they were rejected by environment ministers in 2005.
