Aug 21, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian IT industry wants to improve its image and create a competency framework. The Australian Computer Society has formulated a "National Statement to the Governments of Australia". It is based on recommendations from workshops and a survey. The statement was handed to the Queensland Government in mid-August 2006 and will later be given to other governments. The paper proposes that IT workers be called "technologists" and a positive brand be created. It is hoped to introduce a competency framework and a governance system.
