VU boosts on-the-job study.

Aug 22, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Elizabeth Harman, vice-chancellor of Victoria University, says under a new strategy, on-the-job training will be compulsory for students. Both those completing TAFE courses and undertaking academic degrees at the tertiary education institution will be required to allocate a minimum of a quarter of their studies to training placements with employers. The university is also planning to focus more on its core areas of hospitality, sports sector and engineering courses, in line with recent calls for specialisation by Australian Education Minister Julie Bishop. No job losses are expected under the new approach, set to be refined in 2007 and implemented between 2008 and 2010.
