Aug 18, 2006 (Weekly Tax Bulletin - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office is monitoring the building and construction industry's compliance with taxation laws. Particular attention is being paid to cash transactions. The following methods are used to detect unreported business-to-consumer transactions: visiting building sites unnoticed; comparing appointment and quote books with invoices for consumer transactions; matching information from trade suppliers; and analysing local newspapers.
