Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2006

Aug 20, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) has warned that the number of questionable company reports could rise. ASX CEO, Robert Elstone, says that there are nearly 2,000 companies listed on the ASX and about 100,000 statements are lodged each year. He has warned that the number of smaller speculative companies is increasing and that the ASX cannot take responsibility for the veracity of statements. His remarks were prompted by criticism of slow action by the ASX in the case of copper mining company, CuDeco.
