Regulate airports, cut fees: IATA call.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2006
Byline: Steve Creedy
Aug 16, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's policy of light regulation of privatised airports has been criticised. Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Association, said that he would call on the Australian Government to re-impose rules on the airports. He said that the privatised facilities' operators had taken unfair advantage of their monopoly positions. Bisignani cited the 57 per cent margin in EBIT of Sydney Airport, while a very successful global company, General Electric, has EBIT of just 15 per cent.
