Aug 16, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Only three Victorian universities were listed among the top 500 in the world in one international ranking. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University's rankings are based on academic and research performance. It includes 16 of Australia's 38 universities. In the top 100, Melbourne University was ranked 78th, and Australian National University in Canberra at 54. The other Victorian institutions to be included were Monash and La Trobe. Glyn Davis, vice-chancellor of Melbourne University, said that Australian universities did not have the same level of funding as US institutions.
