Aug 10, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal is hearing a complaint of discrimination, alleged by a high school student. The 15-year-old is currently in Year Nine, and has a severe learning disability. She says the State Department of Education indirectly discriminated against her by not making the funding for a teacher's assistant available. She had applied for such a position to be created since the late 1990s. Cate McKenzie, the deputy president of the Tribunal, ruled on 10 August 2006 that Victorian Education Services Minister Jacinta Allan need not appear in the case, as the evidence presented was sufficient.
