Telstra spits the dummy, but node news is not so bad news after all.

Aug 08, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The management of Australian telco Telstra is desperate to thwart growing competition in the broadband internet segment. After an unfavourable ruling by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission on asymmetric digital subscriber lines (ADSL), and another soon expected in unconditioned local loop copper wires, CEO Sol Trujillo attempted to create a new monopoly area for Telstra. His plans for a $A4bn "fibre to the node" network however have also been rendered ineffective by the regulator.
