Aug 03, 2006 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Productivity Commission has reached some interesting conclusions on balance of trade in 2006. Its economic modelling has confirmed that the economic gains from reducing automobile industry tariffs are outweighed by losses from the export deterioration. The example Australian and Asian car makers should follow is that of North America. Canada reached a deal with the US when it was previously in a similar position to Australia, which means that in 2006 the Canadian automobile industry has 10 times Australian profitability and is four times larger.
