Business Services Industry
Betting on a duopoly for now.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2006

Aug 02, 2006 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Tabcorp's proposal to take over UNiTAB could reduce competition in the gaming industry. The company already owns TABs in Victoria and New South Wales. It appears that the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) is agreeable to a duopoly formed should Tabcorp's plan succeed. Investors are attracted to the higher cash offered for UNiTAB compared with a competing bid by Tattersall's. Tabcorp, however, has a reputation as being arrogant in its affairs with race clubs and has closed regional TABs.
